Headwaters Partners with HealthHub to Improve Patient Engagement and Coordinated Care Through a Revolutionary New Digital Platform<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

ORANGEVILLE, ON, September 12, 2019 –<\/strong>\u00a0Headwaters Health Care Centre has partnered with HealthHub Patient Engagement Solutions to launch The Hub – a digital platform that brings the electronic medical record (EMR) to the bedside and allows patients and families to actively participate in their care and engage with their care providers.<\/p>

In late 2018, HealthHub installed the first set of IBTs in the hemodialysis unit with a total of five Integrated Bedside Terminals (IBTs) available for patients and staff to use. The patient survey module allowed patients to provide their feedback regarding their care and the entertainment module provided an enhanced selection of bedside entertainment options including a wide range of popular television channels, games, internet radio and internet.<\/p>

This year, after incorporating feedback from the initial installation, the platform was rolled-out to a total of 96 IBTs throughout the hospital. Headwaters and HealthHub built a schedule to install the units over a three-week period. The plan was to install a unit every time a patient was discharged from their room to minimize disruptions. \u201cHealthHub exceeded our expectations,\u201d says Peter Varga, Vice President Patient Care and Chief Nursing Executive. \u201cWe actually completed all the installations in eight days.\u201d<\/p>

Today, The Hub is improving the way things are done at Headwaters. Jennifer Bourne, a Clinical Resource Nurse at Headwaters points out, \u201cIt\u2019s enabled our clinicians to be at the side of the patient providing better care and more timely documentation. Our patients get to see some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that really hasn\u2019t been visible to them in the past. There are no surprises and patients are aware of what we are doing as we move through the process.\u201d<\/p>

So, what else does the future hold for The Hub at Headwaters? \u201cI see the IBT as the first step towards our vision and digital strategy where all clinical information is integrated into one patient record,\u201d says Peter Varga. \u201cI believe The Hub empowers our patients and families and improves the overall patient experience with the hospital.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cAll of this is possible, and we have many new applications in the final stages of development to meet the needs of patients, their families and clinicians.\u201d Says Paul Hemburrow, Chief Customer Officer at HealthHub. From HealthHub\u2019s perspective, the entire platform is a turnkey scalable solution that uses the same infrastructure that powers the hospital\u2019s virtual applications.<\/p>

There are future plans to introduce new functionality with The Hub including patient dietary preference, or computerized orders from the bedside to the gift shop so that needed items can be delivered directly.<\/p>

Patients have the option to rent the entertainment portion of the Hub\u2019s programming at a daily rental of $17. 25 including tax or a four-day rental of $46.00. This includes television, audiobooks, internet radio, internet use and game selections. We do not want patients paying more than the daily rate, so we commit to refunds.<\/p>
